Well we finally did it. We packed our kids in the car and we went to church. This has been something we planned on doing ever since we moved to our house. Life came up and so did the events it brought and unfortunately church was on hold.
We decided now was the time to go because we need it the most right now. The kids knew all week what we were doing and kept asking about their classes. We also decided that Saturday nights would be our special night with eating out for dinner and then church at 7. The kids loved this idea since we don't eat out anymore that much.
Waiting patiently to leave for church! They were so excited.
We are going to the same church that Sonja and her family attend. I have been there once for her wedding and not since then. When we walked in it was quiet and only a few people were around. We were greeted warmly by a head usher and he directed us to each of the children's classes.
Damian went in the 1st-6th grade class and was in awe at all the games on the table! He made himself a name tag and walked right in. Easy as pie!
THEN, it was the little one's turns. Brandon, Max and Mila all went into the preschool room and the woman was soo friendly as were the people in Damian's class. I did the whole schpeel on how they are never ever left alone without us, yadda yadda. Well she picked each one up and over the gate and gave us their numbers. Mila took one last glance at me and she was gone.
I joked with Eric and Troy that we should run and go somewhere else! Shopping anyone?? We each had a number that we held onto in case it flashed during service. They never flashed.
I looked at that board more than the pastor because I was waiting for number 800! They have alot of music during the first half hour and I actually enjoyed this time. I tapped my foot and sang along! Sonja is probably laughing at me right now aren't you??
Alot of people bring Bibles which we didn't and may do next time. They had the verses on the screen though as well.
Overall it was a wonderful night. Being able to be with Troy and no kids and have our time with the Lord was peaceful anf fulfilling. It was as if that service spoke to us last night. Eric joined us but kept eyeing the high school room wit the pool tables! Maybe next week.
The kids were great and Mila only cried a few times. I guess Brandon did too! He gave us the pictures they colored and the story they read. I asked him what it was about and he said "Je-zits". Okay...that is a cross between Jesus and Cheez-its. That's the new cracker in the house. Poor guy, I had to keep correcting him but he understood what they were reading.
Damian said he played checkers and sang songs. They are all excited about going back. The look on Mila's face and the screaming happily "DADDY!!!!" was the best part of the night.
I am so glad we did this and will continue. It's good for the kids and it's good for Troy and I. Now I get to go buy my own Bible. I'm the only one without one :(
