we have a 16 year old in our house

16 years ago today I was laying in the hospital bed wondering why my mom and aunt would let me go push an almost 10 pound baby out NATURALLY. I thought that was normal

I was only 1 year older than Eric is today when I had him. I can't believe how both of us have grown in the past 16 years. This child has taught me so much and he is a big part of who I am today and where I am in my life. Everyone knows the health issues Eric endured but know one knew what it was like holding your baby in your arms wanting to take all his pain away and crying to the heavens "WHY HIM????"

Now I know He had a plan for both of us and he was given to me so I COULD take that pain away and always be there for him. I held him while he slept, I covered those poor hands and legs up for him, I ran every electrical appliance so he could rest and I held him on the counter while he slept next to the running water. I did this with the support of my parents and I couldn't have done it with out them.

3 1/2 years later I met Troy who took both Eric and I into his life without hesitation. I didn't have to pull the whole "we're a package" deal. He would've taken both of us anyways. Except I didn't spring Eric onto him until later in the relationship and I did it by popping into Macy's with Jamie and Eric in tow. I'm sure he was surprised. Mostly in part because Jamie still tows along with me!

Happy Birthday Eric Andrew a.k.a Joe, Joseph, Niko and my fave Shorty. We're so proud of you and I couldn't have asked for a more loving, respectful, doting big brother, determined and driven son who still calls me Mama and sings along with me to the cool songs even though I'm NOT cool as you always remind me.

I love you baby! xo
